Everyone picked off the Cashews, Hazels and Pecans by the end of the week there was nothing left but peanuts. We had an early taste of things to come with some gentle summer easterlies, a little rain, an easterly swell, some warm sunny days and heaps of dolphins. Then just when we we’re all getting used to it and settling into the summer pattern. We’re left with peanuts as we once again we get slammed by strong northerlies trying to push us back into spring. However this is pretty much in line with the December weather patterns in Byron Bay, one step forward, two steps back, or is that vice versa? Either way the question on everyone’s lips is ‘will the northerlies back off after Christmas?’ Historically yes they do, like clockwork, the Christmas break comes and the weather changes. The dry hot northerlies back off and are replaced with moist, lighter easterlies and south easterlies as the air is sucked back up north into the tropical lows as they form. Will this happen this year? Well only time will tell, we had a very warm current come through last Saturday afternoon, which is a fairly strong sign of some tropical lows may be on the way.
