There was a cool crisp Southwester blowing early , a gentle reminder that autumn is just around the corner. By lunchtime it was back to a classic summer. But there’s no escaping it, the season is set to change soon. Some mourn the end of summer, but not me. I’ve always found that in Byron Bay there’s something special about the change of seasons. It’s more like a new beginning rather than an end. It tends to deliver a sense of excitement with that first hint of the change. It’s the anticipation that the new season may bring something special, new friends, new sandbanks or perhaps a new swell. The kind that catches the surf reporters by surprise, giving the crew a short window to score a few relaxed slides before the hordes arrive. Whatever it is; that Southwester this morning smelt of change, which after all is the very nature of life itself, .
