Jul 08 09 In Byron Bay Today

We’re a funny bunch up here, . You can give us cyclonic winds, rain, hail, huge seas and shocking beach erosion and somehow, we pick ourselves up and keep going. But God forbid that it gets a bit cold. Ooh no we don’t like that at all. Those of us that grew up locally, or have been in Byron long enough to acclimatise. Start to hug ourselves and mutter about how damned cold it is today. Of course the truly funny part of all this, is watching the newer residents and visitors reactions to this outward display of our inner Nancy’s. They stand proudly in the wind, clothed in little more than shorts and a Tee, quietly smiling. You can almost hear them thinking. ‘Cold, you think this! Is cold? Huh come down to my place and I’ll show you cold.’ Seeing the smirk, you stop shaking and try to harden up a bit. After all we don’t want to appear blousy in front the visitors. It’s all relative you see, when you’re used a summer that seems to go on for nine months of the year. Then the short and mild winter we do experience comes as a shock. There were waves to be had in the bay today, and some of them although small, were kind of nice for a slide. But I didn’t get amongst it; I just stood on the beach shook for a while and took photos, because it was just too cold for this old bloke, .
To all those fantastic folks who chose to pose, we’d just like to say. Thank you for being here with us .
