Jun 1 09 In Byron Bay Today

Yes folk’s winter has officially arrived. How do I know? Well the empty beaches and people wearing wetsuits are a bit of a dead giveaway. Or it could just be that my calendar says it’s the 1st of June, which over in this hemisphere happens to mean winter. The water is still nice and warm but if you’re on your way to the bay you’ll need to bring some rubber wear and maybe a wetsuit too. Byron bay was actually pretty quiet today, what with the mix of rain, winter and a fairly hefty dose of Mondayitis going around, it took a while for folks to warm up. But warm up they did and eventually we were rewarded with a shoot. Now as far as the surf goes, we had a day of dramatic contrasts. One side of the cape had some good sized semi bumpy, but joyously thick and juicy peaks. Just the sort of waves the little whiteboard set are into. The other side was a whole world away with small clean logger lines, which had the old school crew beaming widely. So it was all systems go for both camps. Where you went was simply a matter of what board you felt like riding. For the whale watching fans, well we haven’t actually spotted any ourselves yet. But we had a chat to one of our buddies up at the lighthouse and he reckons a few humpbacks were seen out wide off the cape this morning. So it’s probably about time to start heading up there for a look if you’re .
To all those wonderful people who chose to pose we’d just like to say. Thank you for being here with us .
