Jun 2 09 In Byron Bay Today

Apart from a few short showers, it was just a classic North Coast winters day . Sunshine, light winds and lovely little waves, we had it all in the bay today. There’s something very special about early winter in Byron. Those that live here know it, and those who stumble upon it by chance soon find out. The bay seems to breathe a gentle sigh of relief as the seasons change, transition to winter is a pleasant one. The water has chilled just enough to make it bracing, yet it’s warm enough to still enjoy, and the sun still warms yet it’s lost its sting. But to me the thing which grabs me most about this time of year is the stillness of dusk. Provided there are no raging storm cells about. There’s a phenomenon which begins to become a regular occurrence at this time of year, it’s the evening light and stillness at dusk. The water and land temperatures tend to reach equilibrium around mid afternoon. By the time its sunset there’s often only a distant memory of the wind that blew during the day. This sets the stage for beautifully still afternoons as the setting sun bounces around the glassed off bay. It’s a time I know that many folks love, if there’s waves, it’s just an added bonus. On days like this it’s enough to just sit, watch and let it all unfold, just as it did .
To all those fabulous folks who chose to pose we’d just like to say. Thank you for being here with us .
