Sunday started with a threat and a rumble from the northwest, yet by lunchtime it absolutely glorious . It was no surprise that town was busy, being a long weekend. But the beaches were pretty quiet. Reason being is for the first time in a long time, there was very little surf in the bay. There were however, some sweet little waves to found in and around the Byron Shire. So the hunt was on to find out where. It didn’t take much effort, and before long we’d uncovered a few nice peaks with a small crew on each happily enjoying them. So after we popped up to the Lighthouse, as it’s now officially the start of Byron Bay’s whale watching season. Right on cue there was a pod of the big fellow’s way out wide. We spent some time angling for a shot, but they were just too far out of range. The best we could manage was a huge splash in the distance dwarfing a boat full of folks following the whales. Regardless of the vast distance, the crowd gathered at the lighthouse were making all the appropriate squeals of delight at the spectacle of the breaching whales. Even if those whales were a long way offshore. It was cool to witness all those stoked people getting a dose of what they had come for, .
To all those beautiful people who chose to pose, we’d just like to say. Thank you for being here with us .
