There were hushed whispers and rumour . A hint of southeast swell rounded the cape and teased us with the promise of offshore waves in the bay. Those lucky enough to find themselves in Byron were blessed with a stunningly beautiful weather; the type which lingers in memory for many years to come. It’s almost winter solstice over here and yet folks were swimming in Bikini’s and shorts. The warmth and clarity of the air had people bursting with gratitude for the warm weather. Most folks we met, the first thing they’d say, was ‘My God, what an incredibly gorgeous day’. The waves were still small and if you caught the wind in the shade you were quickly reminded what season it is. Yet in the lee of Cape Byron it was sun sand and warmth with some fun little waves. The energy was almost overwhelming and we noticed many people just break spontaneously into play. There were folks running, leaping in the water, kicking balls and chasing each other around. They just couldn’t seem to help themselves; the joy was infectious in Byron today. As if that wasn’t enough the swell slowly but surely began to rise. As the day progressed we started to receive some nice little waves. Nothing flash or huge, but lots of fun with a promise of more to come, .
To all those groovers who chose to pose, we’d just like to say. Thank you for being here with us .
