Don’t Panic,. It was a just an utterly glorious kind of day in Byron Bay. One of those late spring early summer days when it’s not possible to be down on anything. We pulled up to check what’s happening and noticed the open side was the spot for a slide. While lugging my gear up the beach I spotted a pod of dolphins chasing fish in the channel. It’s always a bit of fun watching the reaction as they hit the crowd. Yeah I know, a bit sadistic of me, but I digress. When a pod of Dolphins reaches the crowd, some folks get radically excited by the encounter. The old salts tend to just shrug and think hmm Dolphins, niiiiiiiiice. Then there are those who have just seen a largish dorsal fin up close for the first time in their life, and they usually panic. If this is you don’t feel bad, we’ve all mistaken a Dolphin for something a tad less friendly in the bay, although very few will admit it. But either way, no matter what or who owns that dorsal fin you just saw, it’s a good idea not to panic. Getting freaked out in the water is good way of getting yourself in trouble. So take a deep breath, relax, and enjoy the fact either there’s a dolphin right next to you. Or that you’ve got a great story to tell your buddies, about the beasty that just cruised past,.
