Grateful Witness In Byron Bay Today. Yup, just another of those super sunny northerly blowing, end of spring moments in Byron Bay today. Found myself strolling along a fairly empty stretch of beach. There wasnft much happening but there was just enough swell and tide to turn on a few chunky little moments in the shore break. It looked fun enough but a little tricky. The young blokes are just so surf stoked that theyfre all make it look good, and I find myself, watching and thinking. Yeah I used to be able to do that twenty years ago. Ah yes the forced serving of humble pie we surfers must face as we age. We may all stand around in the beach carparks raving about how good we were, before the dicky knees and dodgy hips demanded we take it a bit easy. But we donft get to stay that good forever. I may be mistaken, but I suspect the older I get, the better I was. If there is anything Ifve learnt lately, itfs to be grateful for what youfve got when youfve got it. If itfs removed, then I try to be grateful when I witness it in another. Being resentful for things past is just self abuse. If someone triggers a happy memory for me, then I get to experience that same feeling again. For me thatfs something worth being grateful for, In Byron Bay Today.
