The northerly returns, . The spring northerlies returned with a vengeance in Byron today. There was no escaping it, and for many it signalled the end of those nice clean little lines in the bay, well at least for a day or two. There were waves to be had today, but only for those in the know. Unless you hit it at precisely the right tide you missed out. Because the way the banks are set right now, the window of opportunity is a small one at best. Now we all know how good we’ve got it here in Byron Bay, but let’s spare a thought for our sea fairing cousins in Samoa. Those poor folk were struck by a huge Tsunami early this morning. The damage was massive and many souls lost their lives. It’s not over yet either, there was another quake threatening Indonesia and the Cocos Island with a Tsunami this evening. We can only send them our thoughts and prayers and hope they get through it ok. The sea is a beautiful yet treacherous lover; it’s wise to always treat it with the utmost respect at all times. Even when it appears to be small, gentle and benign as it was, .
