A Little Experiment, . Yeah I know folks; we tend to talk a lot about the crowds we encounter in the water, in Byron Bay today. But you know it is a reality we must somehow all face, because it's not about to go away. The strange thing is that there are actually more than enough waves to go around, if we bother to look for them. This week I tried a little experiment, I decided to see how much more effort it would take each day to find uncrowded waves. Well you know what? It never took me more than ten minutes to find an empty surfable wave. So what's the issue? Well it seems to be that everyone wants to surf the famous breaks only, which brings me to a point. They may be the most perfect looking waves around. But when doing the contemporary surf check, we need to check more than just the surf conditions. We must also consider the crowd in the water to be an environmental factor. If the break we're looking at has so many surfers in the water that it's no longer possible to the ride the wave properly, then it's not really perfect at all. Suddenly a lesser quality wave with nobody or only a few surfers on it becomes a far more attractive option and therefore far more perfect. What I'm trying to say is this. If I paddle into an already frustrated crowd and get frustrated myself, well whom have I really got to blame? I managed to find plenty of beautiful empty waves this week, which I may ad, this is during school holidays. So if you're looking to score, you may need to get out and look first, .
