A Walk On The Wild Side, . Those of you familiar with the In Byron Bay Today website would know that as general rule we tend to avoid controversy and politics. We have sound reasons for this, we believe if you focus on the positive the positive tends to grow, but having said that, we intimately understand that denial is also not a good thing. So last week we asked you, our readers to have your say on the current surf safety issues in Byron Bay. But we made it difficult on purpose. No anonymity, no abuse, no bigotry or blame, just your observations. What we got in return was surprising, intelligent, refreshing and at times quite controversial. We didn’t get as many letters as I’d hoped for, yet that doesn’t surprise me either. It takes considerable courage to put your name to your opinion and have it published. To those who were willing to speak up, I salute you. We didn’t get many, but the letters we did get were well thought out, and that’s what counts. Now I always watch the surf carefully, it’s a habit I acquired as a grommet. But due to us asking for feedback this week, I made an effort to really sit, not judge, just watch and observe. I did this for many hours every day, and what I witnessed was both sociologically interesting and psychologically a little spooky. Yes there are many underlying issues at play.
