Most Popular Jan 2010, In Byron Bay Today. What a start to twenty ten it’s been in Byron Bay. Many of us are feeling like we’ve lived a whole year in one month. It all came as a bit of a shock. December was so very quiet then along came New Years Eve and everything changed. Suddenly there were Instant crowds, radical behaviour in the water and eventually a terrible injury, but not just one. Now we all know about young Pascal, but it hasn’t stopped there, there have been many serious surfing injuries in January and not just in the Byron Bay. It’s been going on everywhere, up and down the coast; don’t ask me what the answer is because I honestly don’t know. All I do know is if it keeps on happening, the future of surfing is bleak. On a brighter note it was also a gloriously beautiful month, we saw many old friends, a lot of warmth and some very funny moments. There were many folks smart enough to avoid the crowds and we did get plenty of swell. Then there’s been the marine life, my God has it been busy out there or what? Manta’s, Eagle Rays, Dolphins, Turtles, heaps of fish and of course when it’s that busy with sea life, there have been a lot of sharks. We got a few photos, but we saw many more than we managed shoot. The ocean is like a vast desert with pockets of intense life that moves from place to place. When that life is on at your local break, it’s wise to remember that we are the visitors in the water, In Byron Bay Today.
