Weekend Review Feb 19 In Byron Bay Today

Back to Feb 18 In byron bay Today Go to Feb 21 In Byron Bay Today

Progress & Heart, . Most know by now what happened on Wednesday the 17th. And most of you know our primary motive for what we do has been about spreading joy. When we decided to build In Byron Bay Today it was because we were sick of all the negativity in the world media at that time. So for the last 15 months we’ve been trying to do something positive. But it’s a tad difficult to stay positive when some fool rips off more than you made in the last twelve months in one fell swoop. Truth is, we were feeling pretty negative after that, and expressed our anger and despair on this site on Wednesday night. We were venting our frustration at the situation; we never expected what was to happen next. A little after midnight the emails began to arrive, and the next day the phone started ringing. It’s all been from you guys, our readers and friends. Many wanted us to know that they too have experienced this selfish violation from thieves and if they could help they would. Many people offered to partly finance replacement gear with voluntary donations. Simply because they love our site and wanted to give something back. Well I’m a big believer in not questioning generosity or help when it’s offered. So we swallowed our pride and stayed up late into the night organising a donation setup on the site. At 2.am in the morning we were struck with this strong feeling of ‘I really don’t want to do this’. But after receiving so much support, we went ahead. And did what was required to allow you guys to help us keep In Byron Bay Today a going concern.

The donations and offers started to flood in, by this afternoon we’re almost halfway towards being able to source some second hand gear and get back to work again. This progress simply would not have been possible without the extraordinarily heartfelt generous actions of you people. We’ve had an extremely generous interest free loan from a surfing family freezing in Germany, checking our site everyday and hanging out to get back here. A surfer who works an oil rig in the Libyan Desert made a very generous donation just out of gratitude as he feels this site helps to keep him sane. We had another very generous donation from a local company Lighthouse Investments an ethical investment company, just because the bloke loves checking our site each day. That’s to name but a few. There have also been generous donations from USA, NZ, Switzerland, UK, Sydney, Gold Coast, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and of course from the local crew, just too many to mention. We’re not out of the tunnel yet and we still have a lot of hard work to get back to where we were. However thanks to you fine people , is looking like we will stay live. It’ll take considerably longer to break even now that’s for sure. But we’ve been touched on a level that we never expected. So much good has come from a stupid act of greed, thank you, with gratitude & respect to you all Ben & Yoko.
