Yeah Baby, We Had Waves. What did I tell ya, huh, huh? Now if only we could just do that every night and be guaranteed waves the next day. But alas that’s not how it works in Byron Bay today. In fact I personally have little faith in swell predictions or weather predictions. If there’s one thing I’ve learnt for sure from forty years of surfing it’s that Huey is utterly unpredictable. The ocean can throw you curve balls that you never saw coming. That’s just the way it is, love it, surf it, play in it. But always have a healthy respect for it.
Speaking of the ocean, get down to Wategos on Australia day at 8.00am to register for the Byron Bay Australia Day Surfers Charity Challenge 2010 it’s only $10 and all monies raised go to charity. This very cool event was organised by Garry Morgan and Dan McCabe so we say much kudos to both of them for the great effort. This is a really good thing to be part of folks the event raised $6000 dollars for local charities last year, and I reckon with your help it could be doubled this year. So get your shoulders warmed up and get into it. Be aware though, if you’re like me and often don’t wear a leggy, don’t let Gaz catch ya. He’s got a bit of thing about that, although we won’t hold that against him. As both Gaz and Dan have done a very fine job organising this event. So like I said, get on down and support this.
Now that’s not all that’s happening this coming long weekend folks. Don’t forget that this Friday the 22nd is the Women and the Waves, a night of surf art, music and film at the Byron Community Centre from 7pm for surf inspired art and music (by local artists and musicians) and 8pm for the screening of The Women and the Waves Documentary. The screening will be followed by a discussion on women in the surf facilitated by Rebecca Olive 9-9.30pm. Tickets are on sale now from the Community Centre or on the night for $16. Blokes are also welcomed. So get along and support that from what I hear it’ll be pretty cool night, .
To all those fabulous folks that chose to pose, thank you, for being here with us .
