Desperado’s Paradise, . Nobody could question the beauty of it all in Byron Bay today. And yes we did have a pretty decent week of waves last week, but that was it. We were back to the flats yet again today. Now I’ve seen flat summers in the bay before, but even when we’ve had summers with very little swell, the banks have been ok and the wind has been friendlier. This summer however the wind is almost constantly blowing from the north like its still spring which is pretty unusual for late summer. The tropical lows keep forming and then disappearing before they generate any real swell, and folks have taken to surfing six inch ripples with a passion, which is just a little strange. After nearly six months of lack lustre waves the old town is in a semi state of retire. Byron Bay is a surfing town and it tends to pulse when the swell jacks, it’s the rhythm of the ocean which brings life to the place. By this time of year we’ve usually seen at least two decent swells of note. Last year in particular it broke almost nonstop for months. But so far in twenty ten it’s the ongoing story of making the best of what there is, which is becoming difficult as folk’s are getting a little desperate for waves. Yet we are a resilient mob and we live in hope. Autumn is just around the corner now. So maybe Huey will take pity on us and produce some slideable lines before we all go bonkers and start swinging from the vines, .
