Thar She Blows,. We got the call from Sean at Byron Bay Eco Charters, ‘why don’t you guys come whale watching with us’, in Byron Bay today. Well now who’s going to turn down an offer like that, not me that’s for sure? So off went to the Brunswick heads mariner to meet up with the guys and head out. We headed across the bar, and out the whale super highway. All was quiet; I couldn’t believe it had we picked the only trip these guys had ever had without seeing any whales? Then we heard it, ssspppsssshhhhh, thar she blows. It was a mother and calf to start with; they were mere metres away and just cruising. They headed deep as we noticed a few more sweeping past on the ocean side of Julian Rocks, then a couple more in line with mount warning. All in all many happy passengers, many photos taken and it was a joy to get up close and personal with some whale in the bay today. Now Sean tells me that due to the fact that everyone’s been doing tough this year, he’s dropped the price down to $70 per person to head out on his boat. Now that’s a dry boat, with seats a covered roof and plenty of comfort for whale watching, and that’s quite a bargain, .
