Pleasure & Pain, In Byron Bay Today. From a photographers point of view it’s a special kind of torture taking surf shots. There’s the pleasure of watching the surf and studying it on an intimate level. The there’s the pain of not being out there and watching everyone else enjoy it. It was almost exquisitely painful watching it in Byron Bay today. As those who follow this site would know, we haven’t had such a productive autumn for waves. Sure we’ve had moments here and there, but all in all it’s been pretty small. Well not today, today was a joy to behold, but also torturous shooting it, knowing full well that I’m injured, and won’t get the chance to sample some the nicest waves we’ve seen in the bay for some time. But hey I suspect I’ve already had more than my fair share, so it won’t kill me to sit it out for a while. At least I get the mental exercise of surfing it in my mind to get the shots I want. I also get to share the stoke of watching the crew all frothing about just how good it actually was, and for that I’m grateful, In Byron Bay Today.
