Weekend Review Dec 17 11 In Byron Bay Today

Enough Said,. I have to admit it has been a pretty radical week with great waves in the bay, but tis the intense crowds that folks are talking about, in Byron Bay today. Many ask us to write editorial about this very topic, like that may change things. But fact is folks I'm a little tired of it, and I suspect many of our readers are tired of hearing about it too. Our job at In Byron Bay Today is to try and show you guys the fun stuff; sure it gets harder as the silly season intensifies. But, that still is our job, and that is what we would prefer to do. So please no more requests' to write on this subject for a little while at least. Sure we'll continue to try to carry the message of bringing respect to the bay, each and every day as we always do, we believe it's important. But we also need to accept the fact that we choose to live in one of the most stunning places in the world. Other people are going to want to visit. Sure we'd all prefer they bring more respect, and yes the tourism industry could make a lot more effort to educate them about just that. But they are coming none the less and the reality is that crowds are nothing new here. Sure they are definitely more frequent nowadays, which is a bit of a bummer. Yet I remember seeing the same crappy behaviour at The Pass 25 years ago, it was just different faces and fewer beginners, but it was still insanely and aggressively crowded at times.

Here's a little thought. If we all work together in the water as a cohesive unit, and avoid taking our frustrations out on each other, there is a chance we could remedy this situation. The bay is a joyous place with an eclectic surfing community, united we stand, divided we fall. Just getting angry, frustrated and yelling rarely works. Although at times when faced with outrageous behaviour and even an outright physical assault, it's understandable that people can and do get upset. It doesn't make them aggressive people; it just means they can't take the crap anymore. Bottom line we need to support each other out there, it is then and only then that things might change, enough said, .
