It's Baaaaack,. Hmm could it be the same big guy we saw yesterday, cruising through the lineup again, in Byron Bay today? Who knows, nobody can say for sure, but I surfed right over top of a pitch black bully twice in the bay today. Like I said it's that time of year. The waves were kind of joyous today. Yet somone suffered a painful and easily avoidable injury. The person was hit by someone who appears to believe they are more experienced than their ability belies. It's an unfortunate bi-product of the modern surfing world that the inexperienced often feel they belong within a crowd. When I and many of my peers were learning many moons ago, the crew simply did not allow us within the crowd. We were kept at a distance until we could demonstrate we had control of our boards, which was the way it was done for decades. Nowadays people grab a board, canoe, whatever, and paddle straight into a crowd with reckless abandon. But you don't learn to drive in peak hour traffic so why learn to surf in a crowd? In other words, crowded waves wether large or small, are really best left to the more experienced surfers, .
