Swim And Swell, In Byron Bay Today. The annual ocean swim was held in Byron Bay today. The swimmers are usually greeted with warm weather and little swell, but not this year. Today saw a 20-30 knot southerly howl through the bay with a long period south-easterly swell driving past the cape. Mixed blessings really for the swimmers, the increasing swell created a strong sweep down to the finish line, but the head wind would have made it hard going none the less. As for the surf, well it was on yet again, funny really, as at one particular spot the crowd was totally ridiculous, yet elsewhere at several nearby spots the waves were really good and utterly empty. Hmm people must have just been in a communal kind of mood and were digging each other's company. Me, I opted for something a little quieter and was rewarded for the effort, In Byron Bay Today.
