Black Northerlies, In Byron Bay Today. So who is getting just a tad sick of the current spring weather, in Byron Bay today? It just keeps going huh, howling wind, hot humid nights, small gutless wind swell, and cold water from the up wellings. When the wind does eventually change it's nothing more than a daily reprieve which tends to blow the wind swell flat, and then it's back to the northerlies again. Yes the wind can and often does build up the sand which is a blessing, yet it can also produce holes in the banks as well. Many moons ago, before all the crowds arrived the old salts around here used to call this weather a black northerly. Partly, because this wind would often come with a thick cover of cloud, although not always. But mainly because after a few weeks of howling wind, humidity and everything getting covered in salt spray from the bay, the locals moods tended to get a bit dark. So will it change? Of course it will, maybe even tonight. But it will also go back to the north with a vengeance, and it'll keep doing it until the first of the summer lows finally forms up north. Once that happens, it'll hopefuly break the stranglehold of the black northerlies, In Byron Bay Today.
