Beauty and a Beastie, In Byron Bay Today. Every now and again we just get those days when it's not really worth paddling out, and so it was, in Byron Bay today. The weather was glorious yet again, but the swell had dropped even more. So we headed up the cape to see if we could spot a few whales. Pretty soon I thought I'd spotted a juvenile humpback following kayak around the cape. But no, as it got within range of my lens I soon recognised the shape. The way it moved and more importantly the shear width and size of the beastie. There among all the beauty was one of the biggest fattest and most glorious big Pointer that I've seen for a couple of years. It was huge, easily five metres perhaps a little more. It cruised right in close to the rocks and gave the punters a bit of a thrill as all the other critters in the water headed for the hills, In Byron Bay Today.
