Jan 14 13 In Byron Bay Today
Too Many Teeth, In Byron bay Today. The southerly brought more than expected, as by some strange coincidence a whole bunch of sharks also arrived, in Byron Bay today. The wind cleaned off some sweet little peelers holding a decent line for some tip time. But the number of sharks that were present all day kept the numbers down in the bay. Maybe it was just a question of too many teeth lurking beneath. But today was the quietest offshore day I’ve seen during the summer holidays for many years indeed. The lifeguards weren’t taking any chances, most beaches were closed to swimmers, and the Jet Ski and helicopter were out spotting beasties all day. I had a close encounter myself, as did most other crew that paddled out for a few. Most folks opted to give it a rest instead. Some were complaining and making noises about shark culling. To these people all I have this to say. Sharks live in the ocean, that it is their territory not ours. If you cannot accept and respect them for what they are, then perhaps surfing is not the gig for you. We are little more than visitors in their home, In Byron Bay Today.
